    Extremely STINGY portions!

    Andy | Aug 23 2010

Classified has decent food, but by god it’s overpriced and you’re given TINY bird sized portions! Frankly I don’t understand how they can get away with serving salads that can be eaten in 4 bites – ie the Chicken, bacon and avocado salad which has about 3 pieces of avo, 2 little bits of chicken and a sprinkling of bacon. Same goes for the goats cheese salad. They never have the full range of cheeses on the menu either. If you want to leave on a full stomach, make sure you have 3 courses with a few extra on the side to share. (Note: I am a 48 kg chick, so not exactly a heifer who wants to stuff her face) Recently I went for an iced chocolate, which tasted of water. When I mentioned this to the server she shrugged casually and said it was because of the ice. Errrrr-if Starbucks can do an iced chocolate that doesn’t taste of just water with half a teaspoon of cocoa, surely a boutique French style café can do the same?!

Go for the pastas and paninis, which are a little bit heartier. Staff could also do a bit more to welcome you, although I think there’s a new manager guy there now who is quite friendly. On the plus side, the outdoor chairs are fun for people watching, and the coffees are good.

First it must be said it's well laid out, with top marks for style, niche, product and presentation. That also sadly is where the good points end. This lunch time was another entertaining event, my very good friend G and I braved the waters to satisfy our food cravings. Simply put I will just state the details. Drinks: We ordered Ice tea and a Latte, simple enough and they got this right but I was somewhat bemused to find my ice tea served in wine glass. Food: Soup of the day Minestrone, Greek Salad and Wild Mushroom Risotto were ordered. This is where it gets really interesting. 1. The soup- watery, tasteless and as far from Minestrone as it could ever be. Greek Salad-Troy himself would have slayed to avoid this one! No lettuce of any type, all Cucumber and onion however, we did manage to find one lone tinned black olive. Risotto,-great flavor, creamy and well presented, shame the rice was not properly cooked. One may wonder why we go back....well often because it's near by but lately mostly because we just want to give them one more try and to see what else they can truly muck up while passing themselves off as high end.

Recently the salads were wilted and limp as if they had been made and dressed a few days before. The walnuts on my blue cheese salad were stale and rancid. The service was unfriendly. Because of a private party, we could not go to the cheese room and select a cheese. Neither could we access the bathrooms. Instead, we were led around the outside of the restaurant to a small very dark alley, up some stairs lined with black garbage bags and staff members blocking the way who were smoking and chatting on their phones. At least move the garbage cans and smoke up the alley!!! The cheese is good, but the bread is awful. Overall, the atmosphere is nice, but it is expensive, the service is unfriendly and the salads should be prepared at least the same day it's served. I won't be going back.

    Too pricey for fun

Good cheese, overpriced wine and snooty staff. Atmosphere could be a lot more friendly for somewhere trying to emulate a European cafe

Very relaxing space to spend the evening with a group of people. Food is not as food as Press Room but still pretty ok. Decent selection of cheese.
