Fu Sing Shark Fin Seafood Restaurant
BBQ Pork
Meltingpot | Oct 9 2011
Char Siu ($78): must try. Smells wonderful, the honey sauce is not too sweet, there is just enough fat adhered to each piece, melts in your mouth. Char Siu Bun (Baked) - tender char siu inside that requires minimal chewing; even the outside pastry melts in your mouth. Fu Sing Fried Rice ($150): very expensive for a simple fried rice but it is tasty. Fresh prawns, char siu etc. Not greasy. Nicely done.

West Villa Restaurant
Great food
Meltingpot | Oct 5 2011
It is one of the best Chinese meals I have had in many years. We ordered many dishes, including the famous char siu pork, homemade soup, braised garoupa fins and tail, soy sauce chicken, roast duck, vegetables in fish broth and almond bun

Gaddi's
Posh lunch
Meltingpot | Sep 29 2011
It has been a while since I last came for lunch. Am happy to report that almost everything has stayed the same, including the price. The 3-course set lunch is just over $400 and the 4-course ladies lunch is $328 I think, which is what we ordered. Our lunch began with the lovely bread basket and the two types of butter. It is possible to eat yourself silly with this delightful selection of bread. The first course if deep-fried prawn bonbons with tomatoes, avocado and balsamico dressing. Such a refreshing start! Next up is chilled essence of cherry tomatoes with black olives and basils. This is a cold soup that doesn't fill you up. Instead, it prepare your palate for what's to follow. For main it was the slow-cooked Bresse spring chicken with grilled green asparagus. This is clearly a healthy version. Multiple layers of texture and flavours. Exceptional. To finish, we had a selection of desserts, including the raspberry sorbet on a stick, served in a glass container with dry ice underneath. By then I was too full to enjoy the cakes. The service was impeccable. Attentive without being intrusive and we did not feel like we were interrupted when the dishes were served. What a wonderful lunch.

Habibi Restaurant
Fun experience
Meltingpot | Sep 24 2011
Egyptian food, rowdy atmosphere and a rather authentic décor all make for a very fun party at Habibi. Since it moved to LKF, I have been going more often as it is more convenient for drinking afterwards.

Wagyu
Hit and miss
Meltingpot | Sep 24 2011
In general Wagyu has a nice vibe and is quite spacious which is rare in Central. I would say that it is good value for money at lunch and I would probably go again. Dinner, the food is better but also much more expensive.

Hoi King Heen
Loving Chef Leung -
Meltingpot | Sep 20 2011
If there is one talented chef there is to talk about, It's Chef Leung Fai Hung. He's been quite popular in the press lately and for no reason other than garnering some worldly restaurant ratings. But Chef Leung has been known for its respect to Cantonese traditions with a wonderful twist on the presentation and ingredients used. Notable dishes at Hoi King Heen includes some of the favorites -- like that soup that looks like haggis but made with pig stomach with barley and lotus seeds and other pulses as fillings. The soup was so pure in flavour. Two other dishes I particularly loved are the rose-smoked scallops, pictured below, as well as the Pan-fried Glutinous rice dumplings. The scallops, all large morsels, are smoked and give out the strongest yet not overpowering aroma of roses. The smoky taste of tea lingers at the surface of the scallops, which are moist and cooked just right. The Pan-fried glutinous rice dumplings are Chef Leung's signature. Each tie with a chive and pan fried until crispy on the outside, chewy and soft on the top, and the filling -- with combination in textures! I usually order less in the main dishes so that we can each have two at the end of the meal here! Wonderful indeed!!

FOFO BY el willy
Decent Spanish food
Meltingpot | Sep 11 2011
Decent Spanish food in simple and comfortable setting - white linen table cloth, white walls - modern but not very Spanish. Nothing to rave about. Service is pretty nice. Attentive and they know the menu well, made a few suggestions.

Good Overall
Meltingpot | Sep 11 2011
Overall a very good Italian restaurant but I have a problem with the lighting - it is not dim nor bright, a bit in-between, which makes me very sleepy. The food is fine, and I especially like the small touch, such as the pack of toothpicks.

Below expectation
Meltingpot | Sep 11 2011
The restaurant is located right on the top floor of the Star Ferry in the Central but is quite hidden because it is at the end of the corridor and is easily missed. If you get a table by the window, the view is spectacular. If it is on

Bistecca Italian Steak House
My fave
Meltingpot | Sep 8 2011
Among all the steakhouses in Hong Kong, this is my favourite. Granted the service needs improvement and the noise level can be horrendous, I cannot get enough of the Domenica. I prefer this to the Fiorentina because I don't like the fillet half. Skip everything else and just order a side of spinach and sweet potato fries to go with the steak. Yum!

Balalaika Russian Restaurant (Closed)
Real Russian food?
Meltingpot | Aug 30 2011
I don't know much about Russian food so I cannot tell how authentic the food is here but it is always an enjoyable experience dining at Balalaika. Albeit the noisy environment, which is hardly noticeable after a few shots, come with a big crowd to savour the shashliks (grilled meat) which are lit up in front of the diners. Very entertaining!

French Window, The
Delicate French cooking
Meltingpot | Aug 30 2011
Although French Window is situated at IFC, we were taken to a whole different place once we step foot into the restaurant. Walking through the long corridors prepares your mind for the meal. The view is really quite pretty. And the service is very attentive. First to arrive is the amuse bouche and bread basket. Both first class. I had the foie gras terrine as the starter. Not very filling. In fact quite refreshing. Then for main course, I had the beef fillet. The beef has a lot of flavour and feels very tender. We did not order any dessert. The petit four at the end of the meal was very good dessert anyway. Good dinner.

Dot Cod Seafood Restaurant & Oyster Bar
Dinner
Meltingpot | Aug 3 2011
Have been here a few times. If you get a table near the bar, it is quite noisy so ask to be seated at the other end of the dining area. Fish and chips is my favourite. The fish is crunchy outside and still juicy inside. The fish pie is also very good but quite filling. The service is attentive and courteous, very good. Will be going back again.

Ginza Bairin
Too salty
Meltingpot | Aug 3 2011
Usually I order the tonkatsu with scrambled egg bowl (with rice) and the pork chop sandwich. Not many people know Ginza bairin is famous for the former. Anyway today I decided to try the sliced pork with ginger sauce. It was so salty that I had to send it back to the kitchen. Later the waiter told me I am not the only one who complains. Maybe it is just not to our liking. I will stick to the tonkatsu with scrambled egg bowl next time.

Regulars cannot get enough of the salt-baked chicken and the "pork belly braised with preserved vegetables". Both will make you finish a couple bowls of rice. Simple, unpretentious and value for money.
