Tango Argentinian Steakhouse
The place to Meat!
Foodfu | Mar 30 2011
Had dinner with a couple of friends on Monday night. Arrived at 7:30pm and had a choice of regular seating or tall chair table at the windows. Chose the window seating to have a view, but needed to slow down the ceiling fans to cut the draft. Comfortable ambiance and decor. Friendly service. My friends shared a combination Gaucho meat platter main course and I had the rib-eye. All done to order. I had a taste of the humongous short-rib on their platter and was as good as it looked! Some reviewers did not like the fact it was pre-boiled. To me, it was just the right texture and taste. My steak was just right too. Combined all that meat with a nice bottle of Malbec and we had a great carnivourous feast. Unfortuantely, left no room for dessert. Will definitely go back again. Make reservations, cause it got busy after 8pm - on Monday night!

Shang Palace
Finally a new fish dish in HK!
Foodfu | Aug 19 2010
Had dinner at Shang Palace and tried their special menu dish of Fresh Garoupa boneless filet with egg white. Absolutely wonderful. Fish done just right in perfect harmony with the egg white sauce. Was a total surprise. Keep it company with a glass of Chabli and the mind start wondering off into food heaven.
The wuxi pork ribs were melt in your mouth tender and had a nice balanced red bean sauce. Not too sweet or sticky. With the friendly service, a nice finish to a fine evening.- How much did you spend?

Blue Smoke Bar-B-Que
A good ol
Foodfu | Aug 6 2010
Having sampled the ribs in Memphis, Chicago, Nashville, Phoenix, Jacksonville, Austin ... east , central, west, north and south US... finally, we have a true smoked BBQ joint in HK!
The taste is quite authentic, although some might argue that the meat is not 'fall off the bone' tender. This seldom is the case with the real smoked BBQ process (most times when the meat falls off the bone, it's because it was boiled to begin with - not for the BBQ purists). The decor works well as a casual southern rib joint!
Be forwarned though, if you order the BBQ sampler with all the fixin's plus the fries with melted cheese, you will be getting a wallop of a meal. Just make sure to bring your friends along for a finger linkin' good time.- How much did you spend?

Nadaman
Consistent quality you can depend on
Foodfu | Aug 6 2010
Nadaman in Island Shangrila would be my choice for eating broad range Japanese (i.e. not just sushi/sashimi). It's menu has a bit of everything and they are all quite good.
I've been eating there for many years with friends and family, young and old. The service is always prompt and friendly. Also they do their best to meet special requests, like skinless chicken terriyaki! Besides great sushi/sashimi, the sukiyaki's sauce/broth is nicely seasoned and the tempura hot and crisp.
If you like dependable high quality traditional Japanese food and service, Island Nadaman can't be beat.- Overall Rating

Yan Toh Heen
A gem of a restaurant
Foodfu | Aug 6 2010
This is the place to go to impress visitors what eating top class Cantonese food in HK is all about. The view (the HK harbour), the ambience (jade settings), the food...
A few 'must try' items:
1) Great dim sum for lunch
2) Stuffed conch shell
3) Steamed crab claws in mini steamer
4) Filleted whole garoupa steamed in lotus leaf (a specialty I always order cause do not like to mess with bones)
5) Deboned roasted chicken
Together with a nice wine selection (good burgundies), you'll have a memorable experience.- How much did you spend?

L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon
Wish HK Robuchon was like London
Foodfu | Aug 5 2010
A few months ago, had a pretty disastrous lunch at the HK L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon. Following the nice appetizer, the waiter recommended Wagyu came to the table just like two pieces of fat with slivers of meat embedded inside. Still gives me the willies thinking about it.
Never thought I would step into another L'Atelier until the concierge of my London hotel booked me into the London restaurant. It was a totally opposite and amazing experience. The wine matched tasting menu gave my taste buds a total workout that I would not have wished to stop. Alas, sadly it did.
The moral of this story is that, perhaps, I should give the HK L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon another chance?- How much did you spend?

Busy Suzie (Closed)
A place to be seen or place to eat?
Foodfu | Aug 5 2010
Been to Busy Suzie 3 times. It is convenient for me, location wise, and the food is quite acceptable. The ingredients are fresh. Cooked and seasoned just right with dash of salt. Nice soya too. Good selection of sake.
It's only my personal opinion, but there is a bit of a mismatch in combining old style robatayaki service with a club/lounge style high ceiling design. It's neither here or there. The immensely open design doesn't create the cosiness like you would find in a true Japanese robatayaki restaurant. Sort of a waste with the flown-in Japanese chef kneeling and cooking in front of you. Put in some lattice work to drop the ceiling where the counters are. Create some privacy and warmth, surely Suzie will be Busy. The rest is already there.- How much did you spend?

Casa Lisboa Portuguese Restaurant & Bar
One of the best Portuguese Restaurant in HK
Foodfu | Aug 5 2010
From the first month of its opening to now, I have been to Casa Lisboa over 5 times. We were impressed the first time and with each visit, the experience just gets better.
The dishes that we have tried and were consistently good included the clams (Ameijoas a “Casa Lisboa”, a little spicy, just right), the slice cured ham (can asked for all the fat removed if you like and they do it!), the Chourico sausage, the roast suckling pig (Bairrada style, meat moist, skin crisp) and the grilled lemon chicken (moist and tender with a great sauce - Portuguese roasted Hainan chicken!). Sorry no review on carbs or Bacalhau. Pair the great food with a nice bottle of Portuguese wine (ask Fernando)and you'll have a meal to remember.
Many would compare Casa Lisboa with Nino's Cozinha. Although serving Portuguese food, they feel quite different. They are different in decor and presentation style. Both are good, but Casa have one key advantage, you do not need to pre-order the roast pig. Sit back and enjoy.- How much did you spend?

Bistecca Italian Steak House
It's the beef!
Foodfu | Jan 6 2010
The restaurant has a homey feel to it. Not the soft cuddly one, but the cosy kitchen ambience. The main attraction is the steak. Great big slabs of it. The prime rib for two or the porter house for three. Flame blackened to your order. Have eaten there three times and each time the steak were done just right. Try the cured meat platter. A good selection of hams and sausages. Ask for some fresh parmesan cheese with it. Nice glass of white Gavi de Gavi. Mmmm, on cloud nine! The price is also reasonable for the quality of food. Would highly recommend.

But being a super fan of Tokio Joe, I see it as my duty to let the world onto my favourite Japanese restaurant in HK too! Always fresh sushi. Head sushi chef wouldn't serve anything else. Always responsive to suggestions and reasonably priced for a prime location! Totally recommend.

Sushi Hiro
Some of the best sushi in town, but..
Foodfu | Dec 29 2009
The restaurant definitely serves up some of the freshest and tastiest sushi/sashimi in HK. A large variety of white fish as well as a nice sake and shoju selection. Freindly and attentive service. However, if you are not ordering off the menu, should ask the server or chef the price beforehand or give them a budget to work with so not to be shocked by the bill at the end of a very nice meal.

Disappointing Hainan Chicken
Foodfu | Dec 28 2009
Had dinner for two on Dec. 27th to try there 'famous' fishballs and Hainan Chicken. The fishballs were Ok, especially with their fiery chile sauce. The Hainan chicken was truly disapointing. The chicken breast was served refrigerator cold and chewy. It was like eating a rubber chicken.
