What do you like most about WOM Guide or the website?
I think a restaurant guide (in English) like WOM Guide was long overdue. Having a trusted source of information based on user feedback is really the best way to go, as witnessed by the success of such guides in other countries. I would like it even more if the website had all the latest member's opinions/reviews, because things in Hong Kong change so quickly.
Which are your favourite restaurants in Hong Kong?
Favourite restaurants are tough, but the ones that I seem to go back to, time and again, include Ye Shanghai, Dim Sum, Sabatini, and Le Marron.
Which dish do you always order at your favourite restaurant?
I really like the linguine vongole and the tiramisu at Sabatini. The quality is very consistent, and the service is excellent. I think when a restaurant can really master the simple dishes, the ones that everyone else offers, yet do so in a way that really stands out – that’s the sign of a great restaurant.
Which restaurant do you recommend to friends most and why?
I probably recommend Le Marron to people more than any other place. It really reminds me of what’s great about Hong Kong – it’s a truly “east meets west” kind of environment, with great food at a reasonable price. I also prefer to patronise stand alone restaurants if I can – Hong Kong tends to do a lot of hotel dining, and I like to support local restaurateurs.
If tonight’s dinner was your last on Earth, what would you eat?
This is difficult, but I can narrow it down to three: either Da Giacomo in Milan, Katz’s Deli in New York City, or Sushi Taka in Tokyo, and I would have anything the chef recommends (except Katz’s, where you have to have the pastrami!).
