Last Chance for White Truffle Menu
D.Diamond has come across some Alba white truffles and has put together a White Truffle menu, including free flow Barolo wines, available until 30 November. The truffles have been incorporated into a delicious menu by talented chef Bryan Nagao.
Included on the menu is Toro Carpaccio with Sake Jelly, Arugula and Alba Truffles; Crispy Skin Tai on Fennel, Cerignola Olives and Saffron; Braised Goose Liver Wrapped with Goose Speck, Black Pork Belly and Sour Cherries; Kobocha Pumpkin Ravioli with Pheasant Shiso Cream and Alba Truffles; as well as tasting of Kagoshima Beef with Alba Truffles. For dessert Castelmagno Cheese Dop with Baked Figs, and White Chocolate and Green Tea Dome with White Truffle Cream.
I enjoyed all of the dishes on the menu, but for me the standouts were the beef and truffles, the delicate truffle became even bolder in taste when paired with the tender beef; and the dessert with its truffle cream. The goose liver course is decadence on a plate and my dining companion wondered upon seeing the size of the foie gras if it was perhaps a piece of pork. Overall, I concluded that you can never have enough white truffle.
The menu is priced at $2,488 per person.
Christmas Every Night
Elite Concepts (1/5 Nuevo, Cinecitta, La Fourchette, Ye Shanghai) is launching its festive present offer for the month of December. Each night, at all outlets, diners are entered into a nightly draw for prizes such as $1,000 dining certificates and festive hampers.
Free-Flow Sake & Champagne
Zuma is now serving free-flowing sake and champagne at its Sunday brunch. Children aged ten and under are also welcome free-of-charge.
The brunch includes buffet-style starters including items from the Robata grill, and a selection of Temaki handrolls made to order. Main courses such as Grilled Jumbo Tiger Prawns with Yuzu Pepper and Hat Cho Miso Marinated Lamb Chops with Pickled Onions and Myoga are also made to order.
The brunch is priced at $550 per person with booze or $428 without, and is available from 11:30am to 3pm every Sunday.
Sevva's Hampers
Bonnie Gokson has designed and created two Christmas hampers that are available from Sevva. The hampers include such goodies as organic red wine from Italy, award-winning unheated honey and organic herbal tea from Australia, and hand-crafted natural plant and flower essential oil candles. The Organic Hamper ($2,600) is for “those who like to treat themselves to the best of the best” and the Good Life Hamper ($3,300) for those “who love to indulge”.
And, from 1-12 December diners at Sevva can sample the creations of Australian celebrity chef Jared Ingersoll, a pioneer of the global ‘slow food’ trend and international ambassador for sustainable farming and cooking.
Cantonese Winter Specials
One Harbour Road (Grand Hyatt) has introduced a selection of hearty dishes to its a la carte menu. Highlights include Baked Beancurd with Hairy Crab Coral in Puff Pastry; Braised Snake Soup with Shredded Fish Maw and Abalone; Seasonal Hot Pot Rice with Assorted Preserved Meat; and Braised Fresh Baby Abalones with Pea Shoots and Conpoy. A special 5-course Winter Set Dinner is also available at $650 per person.
Treat Yourself
While Christmas can be a lot of fun it can also be exhausting. The Peninsula has introduced a package for residents that would be perfect to recharge before or after the holiday season. The “A Treat to Remember” package is available from $3,200 per room and includes chauffeur transfer to the hotel in a Rolls Royce Phantom, a 45-minute champagne harbour cruise, an $800 dining voucher or a 50-minute spa treatment (the second guest can enjoy a 50% discount at the spa). If you stay in a suite you get both the dining voucher and the spa treatment. The package also includes breakfast for two and a daily fruit basket.
Tempting Burgers
The Lobby Lounge (Renaissance Kowloon Hotel) has introduced a range of creative burgers designed by the chef, as well as the option to create your own burger. The chef's recommendations include Rock & Roll, Country, Blues, Hip Hop, Chicken Burger and Salmon Burger. There is even a vegetarian lentil burger.
Crab Feast
Until 31 December, Unkai (Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers) is offering a crab set menu, which delivers a series of authentic crab specialties prepared with distinctive Japanese flavours. The menu features both Taraba and Horse Hair crabs.
The set is priced at $1,380 per person and includes Simmered Gland Chrysanthemum with Crab Meat; Grilled Small Abalone with Teriyaki Sauce; Grilled Japanese Chestnut; Tuna and Flat Fish Sashimi; Grilled Taraba Crab; Deep-Fried Crab Shell; Horse Hair Crab with Vinegar Dip; Crab Hot Pot; Crab Congee and seasonal fruits.
