Restaurant Highlight - Uno Mas
10.06.2009
Uno Mas is an absolutely fantastic Barcelona-inspired tapas & bar in busy Wanchai, and as soon as you get off the street and head upstairs, you'll feel like you stepped into a hip, modern Spanish hotspot. The high ceilings, clever use of mirrors, spacious tables, choice of either bar-style, table seating, banquette, outdoor terrace or even stand-up (just like in Spain), gives diners a variety of choices on how to enjoy their experience. I found it to be different from any restaurant or bar in the area, and for Hong Kong it commands what appears to be a vast but cleverly segmented welcoming space.

thanks for heads up beemer. they had slow cooked egg on menu - cooked for 40+ minutes and served with serrano ham and truffle oil. quite something. this place remains one of the great value nights out in hk

a new level
beemer | Oct 28 2010
i reviewed this when it opened and have been back many times. always good but when i was there last time i saw they had introduced a new menu. it has gone up a couple of notches - some amazing new dishes. the coca (?) sable (anchovy, manchego and shortbread) is extraordinary. some greta new creative tapas also. my favourite remains the fideua (?) - vermicelli take on paella. yum !

Toe tapping tapas
paschali | Oct 4 2010
This place is a gem. The food is great and the staff are sweet and unpretentious. My only quibble is that whatever you order comes all at once and can sometimes be on the cold side. Other than that I can't really fault it. I'd go again. It's one of the few restaurants in Hong Kong where I'd be happy to return to. The tapas here is wonderful. Great big flavours. Lovely ingredients. It doesn't feel like 'restaurant by numbers' which is so often the case with places here i.e. get the groovy interior designer, get the big name chef and worry about the food later. This place is great value.

the crowd is gone
Canon88 | Aug 6 2010
This tapas joint used to be so crowded! Now only a quarter of the tables are filled. That didn't bother us because we were hoping for a quiet dinner. The garlic prawns and grilled chorizo (both daily special) were fantastic. The suckling pig was good but a little too sweet. Service was scarce - the waitresses were nowhere to be found.

Great Food Outrageous Wine Prices
Mister8888 | Jun 20 2010
I love the food here and think it is one of the most authentic tapeo but those wine prices are ridiculous. Most of the wines by bottle are retail under 20 Euros in Spain, so around 12-15 wholesale. Markups here look to be consistently about 300%. Wine by the glass is reasonable. The Jamon Iberico is excellent, if pricey. Staff are a bit ditzy - Nepalese and Filipino with no real knowledge of the food, but sweet and give good service. Place is a little noisy. Try to get a balcony spot,

THE PLACE TO GO
beemer | Jun 24 2009
very few restaurants stand out in HK for deisgn and feel - most are just rows of tables in boring rooms. uno mas is notable for great design and the food matches it. All in all a great night out.

Modern Tapas
Charmaine Lee | May 31 2009
Generous portions, a modern take on the traditional tapas bar. Tables (not at bar counter) are limited but well spaced apart but there's a private room which seats 10. Leave room for the churros as dessert!

tapas

great selection of decent tapas, and reasonable prices. decor is modern casual, but maybe too chic for a tapas bar.
