Chef to the rich and famous
10.11.2008
When eponymous chef Harlan Goldstein opened his first venture in IFC even his ‘rich and famous’ customers knew they couldn’t just turn up without calling.

Restaurant Highlight - Tuscany by H
10.06.2009
Tuscany by H is one of the top rated Italian restaurants in WOM Guide 2009. After two meals there recently I can understand why. The dishes are all so appealing, the food cooked with a deft hand and the service is solid. The man behind the restaurant is the well-known chef Harlan Goldstein, who has many foodie admirers. For me his affable and somewhat commanding presence in the restaurant provided a connection between the diner and the kitchen, adding to the pleasant evening.

Invitations Gone Wrong, and Right My best friend Scott Murphy is also the world’s best music & entertainment critic ever. Recently he has given me tips on writing though he would pale at the suggestion that I re-write my bit. That said, I am trying to kind of convert the column into something more ‘hip’. After all, it is my column, right friends?

Since the end is near, a tribute!
EdEats | Sep 19 2010
The end is imminent. Harlan G has an upcoming venture in the nearby LKF Tower and so from what I've heard, Tuscany by H will say farewell within the next 45 days. From the first time I visited back in 2008, I have never been disappointed and always leave happy and contented after a meal here. So while I look forward to a new offering from the big man, I have mixed feelings about having to say goodbye to this place.
Although I like trying new stuff every time I revisit a restaurant, I almost never do it at this place. I stick to what I like.
Salad of Romaine, Napoli Tomatoes, Shaved Reggiano, Crispy Parma Ham and Anchovy Garlic Dressing. This salad is simple and simply good. The trick is that every component is sourced well and is nothing but the best. As an example, the tomatoes are so sweet that you can probably make dessert with them and not have to add much sugar. This is testament to what other restaurants must try to do. If you charge 5-star prices, you should use 5-star ingredients.
This dish is almost impossible to get wrong, especially if you follow from the 5-star ethos. Wagyu Beef Cheek Ravioli with Goose Liver and Black Truffle. Perfect team work by the 3 ingredients, each a superstar in its own right, to deliver a result which was most exciting to the palate. Only complaint this time was that the ravioli broke down and was not as al dente as I like.
Easily Harlan's piece de resistance, his Veal Chop “The Way I Like It” Crushed in Tuscany Bread served with Rocket, Cherry Tomatoes and Mashed Potatoes never fails to disappoint. Thicker than the traditional, this is a very good piece of meat and treated with utmost respect in the way it's served. Perfect crispy breaded outside to a very moist and juicy inside, topped with the sweetest tomatoes (same ones he used in the salad above). My only complaint was that the rocket had a little too much heat as compared with its Italian cousin.
To end on a sweet note, we had the Signature Tiramisu which is apparently Mr. G's gramma's recipe. Generous with Mascarpone and not diluted down with cream, the chestnuts also added taste and texture and went superbly well with the lady's fingers and rich cocoa dust. And we were happy ever after.
We will certainly miss you...

One of the best lunch deals in LKF
live2eat | Aug 26 2010
For the set lunch, with a small appetiser buffet, you can get absolutely stuffed, as all the dishes in the buffet are delicious, and then you get your main.
The pastas are fantastic, and a must-order even for dinners.
Bravo, chef Harlan!
And he is always there to make sure the diners are satisfied with every dish!- How much did you spend?

go for the pasta specials

Just had another dinner here, which reinforced my view that Harlan's pastas are just about the best in town. The other dishes are good but pale in comparison.

Awesome Italian food by chef Harlan. The pastas are particularly worth mentioning - perfectly cooked, al dente, with fresh ingredients and fabulous sauces.

Great Italian

Harlan himself was there, and came over to make a few suggestions for us regarding the menu. He's affable as usual, and I'm always happy to let him point us in the right direction. He's doing a four-course "Cheer Up Menu" which is pretty good value, and since he's happy for us to substitute his specials, we were happy to take him up on it.
36-month aged Parma ham, French black and yellow organic tomatoes, Burrata cheese and truffle honey - Harlan showed us the organic tomatoes before we ordered, and they were certainly yummy. The Burrata was also milky and good, with just a touch of black peper seasoning. The little bit of truffle honey on the side was simply divine.
The tagliatelle with Italian wild boar ragout and black pepper crusted pecorino cheese was excellent. I remembered the awesome wild boar ragout pasta from my last visit, and there was no way I was gonna miss out on this! It was very, very yummy...but I do have to say that I preferred the bowl from last time as the pancetta just took it one notch higher.
My tomato crumble crusted sea bass, smoked bacon and leek ragout, caviar sauce was beautiful. The thick chunk of fish came with a tomato and pesto crust that one friend remarked was like the fish with crunchy bean crust (豆酥魚) that we'd find in Chinese cuisine. The texture of the fish was slightly drier and chewier than I expected, which I felt was a nice surprise. The combination of the fragrant bacon, leeks and caviar in an acidic sauce was the perfect partner for the sea bass. Bravo!
Initially the dessert surprise didn't look like much. But the mint and chocolate ice cream was made with fresh mint leaves, and was sooo refreshing. A very nice touch.

Fantastic
888foodie | May 16 2009
The food is fantastic, the pasta to die-for, the mains delicious. The food is expertly cooked, the seafood cooked to be crunchy on the outside but soft inside, flavours are paired well...desserts like heaven. This has become my new favourite place to eat Italian food. They also do a good value set lunch.

Good value for lunch
Jeremy Young | May 11 2009
salad buffet, soup, maincourse, desert plus tea all for a reasonably priced, but exceptionally made lunch. For those who like a significant lunch (and with the time to eat all the food!)
