If Dim Sum is supposed to touch your heart, as the trannslation into English suggests, then this is the place it will happen. The dim sum is often very good. But the added bonus here is that for a big and busy place the staff here are incredibly good. Hold on to your seats, and switch on your pacemakers, they are actually polite and - wait for it - warm and, wait there's more, friendly. These are not qualities you might find in any dim sum restaurant. But here they are genuinely sweet. The food is good too, although sometimes the quality is inconsistent. The steamed dim sum can sometimes be overcooked resulting in too soft wrappers. The rice sheet rolls are often over steamed. Again too soft. But most everything else is consistently good. The roast meats are almost always top notch.
As for the decor, it's the ultimate paradox. Uber groovy Joyce is downstairs and this place is what Joyce will look like in 2080. It needs a makeover but if you feel the vibe there you might be relieved it hasn't had one yet. It's a kitchy, cosy, comfy look. And if you go there often enough you'll see the same regulars at the same tables week after week. It's that kind of place.
