Invitations Gone Wrong, and Right My best friend Scott Murphy is also the world’s best music & entertainment critic ever. Recently he has given me tips on writing though he would pale at the suggestion that I re-write my bit. That said, I am trying to kind of convert the column into something more ‘hip’. After all, it is my column, right friends?

Alain Ducasse's Cookpot

Alain Ducasse's Cookpot

21.12.2010

Alain Ducasse must be a smart man. After all he has successful restaurants in France, Monaco, Italy, Japan, Hong Kong, Mauritius, the UK, and the US. His 27 restaurants have been awarded a total of 19 Michelin stars, with the most recent star-rating going to Spoon here in Hong Kong. As a smart man he knows how to make maximum impact and this he did when recently in Hong Kong to launch his new signature dish, the Cookpot. He invited select media, all of whom attended, and a French TV crew, to go shopping with him at Mongkok market.

i would rate this just as high as spoon at the sanderson in london.food's of the highest quality, especially the foie gras.getting a table near the window to enjoy the harbour view is just a great bonus!

be prepared to break your bank a little, though.

    Sunday brunch

    Yumi | Oct 18 2010

Came for Sunday brunch for the first time. It is a semi-buffet brunch where the starters and desserts are buffet style, so you get to "meet" the chefs. For the main course, you choose from the menu.

I was half full after sampling the starters. Incredible selection of salad, cold dishes, seafood and ham. I love bread so I also had a few different kinds from the bakery corner.

For the main course, I picked the scallop pasta and my friend chose the rack of lamb. Both excellent, but we were too full to finish them.

Dessert was a blur. Again, many choices that are all tempting. The cheese selection is great as well.

The total comes to nearly $700 per person.

    Exceptional view

    ZZ | Sep 1 2010

Try and get a table by the window to get a nice view of the harbour. There is a lot of space between tables, which is rare in Hong Kong, creating a relaxing ambiance.

    Exciting again

    Karina | Oct 16 2009

The view is undoubtedly first rate and the food is also top-notch, and is not meant to be very fancy so don't expect any molecular creation.

Heard they have a new chef and a new sommelier. Am very excited about it. Eager to find out how different the food will be!

    Underrated

    Peech | Apr 26 2009

This is Alain Ducasse but it was never meant to be Michelin 3* level. The food is creative yet simple, focusing on quality ingredients and freshness. I think it's a shame that people have a misconception about what this should be. If anyone has been to Spoon at the Sanderson in London they would understand...
