Shang Palace
11.03.2009
Recently, I have been on a bit of a quest to try a number of the city's star-rated Chinese restaurants. I wanted to achieve two things: to deepen my knowledge of Cantonese cuisine, and to come to some personal understanding of what makes food star worthy. This is how I came to have dinner at Shang Palace, one of the city's two-star restaurants.

Hairy Crabs for Lazy People
13.10.2011
It is tradition for Shanghainese to go for hairy crab dinners when the temperature drops, but it seems like us Hong Kongers are even more fanatic about these crustaceans. Every year, hundreds of thousands if not millions hairy crab fans look forward to October when these bright orange delicacies are in season. The anticipation of cracking open a crab to see how fatty it is, the feeling of having the thick gelatin-like male roe engulfed in one's mouth, and the satisfaction one gets when sucking the delicate sweet meat through the claws and legs are just a few reasons we love hairy crabs.

Family dinners + friends from abroad
Andrew L | Oct 17 2010
We come sometimes for big family celebrations, and it is always a joy to eat the high quality dishes on offer here.
We also bring out of town friends here, and order the drunken prawns, which is quite the show.
Lunch time dim sums are OK here; the dinners are much better.- How much did you spend?

Finally a new fish dish in HK!
Foodfu | Aug 19 2010
Had dinner at Shang Palace and tried their special menu dish of Fresh Garoupa boneless filet with egg white. Absolutely wonderful. Fish done just right in perfect harmony with the egg white sauce. Was a total surprise. Keep it company with a glass of Chabli and the mind start wondering off into food heaven.
The wuxi pork ribs were melt in your mouth tender and had a nice balanced red bean sauce. Not too sweet or sticky. With the friendly service, a nice finish to a fine evening.- How much did you spend?

wont impress but will fill

I liked this place. It wasn't everything a hotel restaurant is cracked up to be - but they never really are, as they are sharing resources. Food was a little bland- another one for the tourists. Not a taste of china but not a bad meal.

Traditional Chinese decor

Nice decor. Food was okay, not amazing. Not worth its price but they do use quality ingredients.
