    Underwhelming experience

    Heatblast | Aug 12 2010

This is a branch of the original Wan Chai outlet that has since closed. When I first arrived in Hong Kong and heard of Pasar as a source of authentic Singaporean food in a city much deprived of such, I was very much excited.

But my first trip here was so underwhelming that I was completely turned off. The food here is generally overpriced but has only a minimal resemblance of those one would get at hawker centres in Singapore.

Even the basic laksa tasted rather mediocre, with an overpowering taste of fermented shrimp paste but was quite meagre with ingredients. And the char kway teow was the most uninspiring that I had tasted - brown flat rice noodles tossed about in lots of oil and black soya sauce, with mostly fish cake slices (the cheapest ingredient in the preparation) and very little of everything else.

    I never bothered to return.

    Best laksa in town!

Not cheap, but the taste is right. Add the chicken if you are hungry. Absolutely delicious!

    Haian chicken

Very good and authentic Singaporean style chicken rice. Always packed at lunch times. Suggest the take-out option if you can.
