To Eat or Not To Eat

Everyone loves Japanese food. Especially sushi and sashimi. With an emphasis on raw fish, they are a spring clean on a wooden tray — or conveyor belt — the epitome of fresh, beautiful and healthy. Or are they?

Noisy affair
Butterball | Sep 15 2011
It was Friday night, and we had the most rowdy group gathering at Nobu. Yet, we fitted right in as the restaurant was rocking, and a great time was had by all. Everyone cleared out the dishes, but the ones that were most popular were the saikyo black cod, the toro with yuzu miso, and the ama-ebi tartare. Sake wine in bamboo flasks make it all the more fun!

Great Desserts
minestrone | Sep 29 2010
The vibe here at Nobu HK is slightly different to its UK counterpart, without the pulsating mad see and be seen rush. Good thing is all the signature dishes are available, so it's great if you want to indulge in the signature black cod with miso and other specialties.
I would say sushi is not the main draw here, especially given the abundance of top quality sushi joints in HK. The draw here is the innovative dishes like the tataki and westernized japanese food, a combo which works here at Nobu.
Staff are helpful and the amazing view is another big draw. Come here for lunch on the weekend and it's a big thumbs up.
Last but not least, the chocolate bento box here has a lovely surprise which I don't recall having tried in the UK. The chocolate fondant here comes with sprinkles of exploding chocolate candy on top! Beat that! If you still have room left in your stomach, do try the homemade mochi ice-cream dish here, it comes with yummy flavours, chocolate, sweet potato and chocolate. Divine!- How much did you spend?

Not as good as London
KK Sims | Sep 20 2010
I have been to Nobu in London and loved it. The menu here is similar, with many of the delicious signature dishes present. Perhaps it is the decor, but I simply prefer the London branch. Having said that, the service is probably better in Hong Kong, and the view, of course, is vastly different (in a good way)

Not bad

I still cannot believe I got forced to go to Nobu, as I don't believe in "fake" Japanese food. Some friends from Taiwan wanted to give it a try, so I gave in. Westernised Japanese food, or Chef Matsuhisa's interpretation of Japanese food, is too sweet for my taste, and with too much sauce and ingredients that don't quite fit in, such as jalapeno. All the sashimi was fresh but there wasn't a lot of variety.
Nevertheless, dinner was great! Expensive, really expensive, but enjoyable and with a nice view.- How much did you spend?

Like a very high-end izakaya

Like any Nobu in the world, this one is no different. Very good quality food, but at very steep prices. The loud bustling atmosphere is helped by the use of wood all over the place.

Pricey but lovely

Not usually a fan for fusion food but the dishes here were all very good. Especially love the Sunday lunch where the selection is really quite satisfying. Of course, quality comes with a price though.
