One of the most celebrated names in fine dining, Robuchon adds his own brand of glamour and hype to the HK dining scene. We opted for counter seating (more formal tables are available in the back), which allows one to enjoy both the tastes and theatrics of the kitchen. The meal began spectacularly. The lobster and sea urchin jelly appetizer was unforgettable, and the selection of oysters are among the best you can find. The price tag of the wine is expectedly steep, but the selection is exquisite. Our biggest disappointment was our main dish of wagyu beef. Our steak tasted as if it had been cooked alongside another customer's lamb chops, and was drenched in a thick sauce which rendered the already richly marbled meat almost too rich for consumption. Such heavy fare may appeal to some, but the overpowering slippage of lamb into my steak was just plain sloppy. The chef added unnecessary drama as he strutted about the kitchen cursing in French and sometimes physically upbraiding his cooks for indiscernible reasons. The meal was as filling as it was expensive. A rich experience in every sense of the word, but not richly deserving of a return visit.

OK
The bar seats are actually better if you want tapas food. For more formal, larger dishes, the dining room is good, but the menu is more limited than the bar counter.

Delicious food. But the star might actually be the bread. Really good bread. I recommend the mini croissants, brioche and bacon bread.

I always sit at the bar counter, and order the L'Oursin (lobster jelly with sea urchin)… I am drooling just writing this.

It was 7:45am. It was a Monday. Humidity above 85%. The weather sucks. It was definitely not a good way to start the week. Usually I would still be in bed at this time under my blanket crouching like a prawn with the air conditioning unit blowing out cool air at 24 degree Celsius. But not this very morning because there was a breakfast gathering with a few friends. I was (am still) very surprised I can actually get up this early and be so awake when I arrived in Central. Maybe I should try to sleep around 5 hours a night and get up bright and early for a change !? humm ... when was the last time I had breakfast? 3 weeks ago? or was it a month ago? ... o well.
Since we were meeting at Landmark, we were too lazy to walk back over to LFK for some Tsui Wah breakfast which I enjoyed once in a while but it tends to be too much for breakfast in my opinion. Also, we were a bit tight in terms of schedule so Cafe Landmark was ruled out. Other than Starbucks, where can we have a light and simple breakfast? LE SALON DE THÉ de Joël Robuchon Note: Not the restaurant which is either LE JARDIN de Joël Robuchon or L'ATELIER de Joël Robuchon; but the Patisserie store on the 3rd floor.
(1) Le croissant aux amandes (Almond croissants) & Le pain au chocolat (Chocolate croissant)
Now, I don't know about you but I think the Almond croissant here is one of the best in Hong Kong. I am yet to find a place that can top it. At HKD 17 a piece, both hands down and two big thumbs up form me! It was served warm (re-heated with oven on order) and the layers were very thin, making it very crisp on every bite. The icing, the almond flakes and the almond filling ... o o o ... yes ... o o o ... so good! The chocolate croissant was equally well done with just the right amount of chocolate filling together with thin and crisp layers. The layers were so thin that you can break through them by a slight touch with the tip of your tongue. How I wish I can stuff the whole thing into my mouth so no single croissant flakes would be left behind (or went to waste). Leave no flakes behind !!!
Next breakfast gathering ... to be decided; but maybe it can be a weekly thing from now on? humm ... maybe I should stop by tomorrow morning and grab myself an almond croissant for breakfast again. A little luxury to start the day! By doing so, at least there is something to look forward to in the morning other than heading back to the office right away ... right? ;)

had dinner at the bar 2 wks ago.. the place was very dark, def could use a lil bit more lighting.. the food was terrible, the main course we had was lamb chops with confit vegetables.. if u wrap it in tin foil i wouldve thought its something they serve in economy class of air cambodia or sth.. service was good though, but in my book it is no where close to being a michelin-calibar restaurant.. have absolutely no idea how the hell it got 2 michelin stars
Impressive appetizer. Lobster jelly, Alaskan Crab meat, sea urchin and potato cream. The combination is simply unbeatable. The main courses my family and I had were also good. Foie gras with duck breast was particularly good. The creme brulee and the surprise chocolate ball ended the meal nicely.
I personally quite like the decor. It is worth it despite the fact it's quite an expensive place to dine at.
To clear up any confusion "L'atelier" is the restaurant and "Salon de the" is the Bar....different menu and different prices incomparable experience.
This is a great place for special occasions or if your out to impress. The food is absolutely exquisite and i highly recommend opting for the tasting menu, yes it is extremely expensive but we are talking about a 2 star Michelin restaurant here, almost nothing to fault. The restaurant overlooks a quaint courtyard the decor is grand yet still cosy.
In my opinion the food is worth 3 Michelin stars, but service brings it down to a 2 star (and that is still not a bad thing)
Just to state the obvious first, this restaurant is really very expensive. Even the tapa's dishes at the bar counter were pricey once you ordered enough to feel like you'd eaten enough.
However, the quality, presentation, flavour and effort that went into each dish was outstanding.
Probably the best steak tartare in town, and as it's so small you have to prolong each tiny mouthful to savour the experience.
Definately worth a visit at least once on a special occassion.
There is no doubt that this has quickly become one of HK's top restaurants. Showing his old student Alain Ducasse how to do it properly and showing-up his rival Pierre, Robuchon has once again created a beautiful and accomplished restaurant, that is at once both classical and modern.
The food is outstanding, wine list as impressive as ever, service excellent and decor & environment lovely (though slightly more modern and almost "club-like" for this price range than I would choose).
A specialty to watch out for is the breakfasts which are among the best in town and a generally under-promoted area in HK's top-end dining scene.
My only disappointment is that (as per my vocal predictions beforehand) Robuchon a Galera in Macau is considerably better!
No question the food is excellent, congratulations to the chef and Mr. Joel Robuchon.
Still wondering why the (excellent) half-size dishes are only available at the counter which limits the experience, i.e. no way to enjoy 4-5 half size dishes wonders of Mr. Joel Robuchon while seated in a comfortable chair.
The quality of the service is not always consistent; some may be too "friendly".
