Good quality Japanese food for a world citizen
Jeremy Young | Aug 30 2010
This place positions itself for the world citizen of tomorrow. It is an all rounder, no wierd, traditional but unacceptable items (except for the hardcore Japanese food fans). This place would be popular no matter where it is located, because at the end of the day it's the quality that counts.

Delicious tempura, especially the fish and the uni wrapped, and ultra fresh sashimi. I go to the Royal Garden one more than the IFC one, but actually prefer the atmosphere in IFC, which is very modern (but a bit dark!) and with a beautiful view of the harbour. Every dish is nicely prepared and beautifully presented.

Sedate, elegant restaurant with stunning food and views to match
Andy | Aug 27 2010
Nothing better than having fresh sashimi overlooking the HK harbour, or sitting by the teppanyaki table having your chef perform miracles with knives on a sizzling hot stove. Be prepared to dig deep though, as it doesn't come cheap, as you'd expect in a premier Japanese restaurant.

Gone downhill
Co-M | Aug 26 2010
The view is still spectacular, the place is still packed, but the food at this ifc branch really has taken a downhill turn. Prefer its sister restaurant in TST, which is much better these days.

Nevermind the money,this place rocks!
Andrew L | Oct 6 2009
The famous thinly battered tempura prawns, the succulent Matsuzaka steaks, and the beautiful kama-toro keep luring me back! This place rocks! Lunch sets are spectacular, but also quite expensive.

Delicious food

Very high quality food, but very expensive for what it is. But agree the tempura is pretty darn good!

Good but not great
brody | May 29 2009
The lunch sets, in true Japanese tradition, are better value than ordering a la carte but you're still paying a lot for fairly standard Japanese food. That said, the tempura is high quality, with a good selection of ingredients and a fine tangy sauce. The side dish of sashimi was naturally fresh and beautifully textured, but at these prices you might expect a little more from what was essentially a smarter version of a lunch set you could have for half the price in Tokyo. It's the location you're paying for as much as the food, I suspect...

Ouch! That hurts...

the bill... that dinner was expensive. But the food is exceptionally good. I really liked their tempura: thin-coat, crispy and juicy. The raw fish is also very fresh.
