Michelin Chefs Discuss Chinese New Year Cuisine
10.02.2010
Chinese New Year is marked by gathering with family and friends for gastronomic indulgences, but not just any delicious dish will do. Dishes are often chosen for their symbolic meanings that results from the language itself, for example the word for 'fish' also sounds like the word for 'wish' and 'abundance'.

Restaurant Highlight - Hutong
11.02.2009
Contemporary northern Chinese restaurant Hutong has an impressive view, and in my opinion food that is at times as good, both in terms of taste and presentation. The restaurant was recently given one star by Michelin and it is easy to understand what would have appealed to the reviewers.

Michellin madness!!!
paschali | Oct 4 2010
How many stars did this place get??? Whatever the number it deserved none of them. Yes the view is blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. The decor is uber something or other, dark and sexy and, and, and (insert endless superlatives here). But the fact of the matter is, it's a RESTAURANT guys and restaurants are in the food business! How hard is it to get that bit right? The food here is so average that in these stunning surrounding it induces a disappointment so severe you find yourself listlessy pondering all the other disappointments life has to offer while you lose yourself in THAT view. To top it all off the staff are curt and cold and obviously feel they don't have to try so hard, as you'll be to busy wetting yourself from that, you guessed it, view. Now, if only they got some Philipe Starke lamps, or something, then they wouldn't even need to serve food. This place is just a beautiful shell.

Stunning space, stunning view, stunning presentation of dishes. Food didn't match up. Overall a bit overrated, given the price. Good for showing tourists the HK view.

A place to impress maybe

Glass galore is the first impression one gets as you walk through the so called Hu Tong (meaning tiny alley), but I figures this place is not really for the locals, so who cares if the decor bares no resemblance to the name of the place! you are here to impress your guests, after all I don't see another reason why one is willing to dish our a fortune in order to have some dim sum that could be had for a fraction of the price at any local noisy old timer dim sum palaces. View is super of course, perhaps one of the best in Kowloon.

hutong and then some
eatme | May 19 2009
Ok, so its a bit more pricey, but with this amazing view, the spot on service and the fabulous food - in London you would pay triple the price and then some. I think this is amazing value if you want to impress. The bird cages are just plain cool!

If you go there it is for the view and ambiance.

The ambiance is what make this place very good. The quality of the food is actually not so bad and it is not daily food.
We "only" paid 5000 for 9 peoples with a lot of wine. But of course don't take the tourist trap menu :p -
Food is great, ambiance is great, but price is "greater"...

Expensive but what a cool place it is. A definite tourist trap, but hey, it is fun!
