New Opening: Greyhound Cafe
26.10.2011
A weekend in Bangkok - shopping, spa, food, and booze - is the best remedy to a long week in the office. Hong Kongers love the Thai capital, and there are a few restaurants that all regular visitors are familiar with. One of them is Greyhound Cafe at Emporium Shopping Centre. The contemporary, quirky eatery has been around for over a decade and it opened its first overseas shop at ifc mall 2 weeks ago.

good, but pricey for portion size

I loved the decor of Greyhound Cafe. Cozy and comfortable but the tables (booth seating) out in the open area were a bit too close to each other. It is always busy here so if you are looking for a place to have a leisurely meal with your friends, this might not be the place. The service was good and the food was very good. Loved the pad thai, salad, and chicken wings. However, I felt Greyhound Cafe was expensive and for the price, the portions too small. The spicy muay Thai burger ($128), although tasty, was finished in 3 bites and the spring rolls were tiny. Luckily, we were forewarned that the portions were going to be small, so we ordered everything to share. If you are looking for a nice, casual place in IFC to grab a bite, Greyhound is great. But if you are looking specifically to eat Thai food, I would not come here. There are cheaper and just as tasty options out there.

Worth Trying.

The atmosphere of Greyhound Cafe was quite homely, with the light bulbs hanging on the ceiling and the specials written on the black boards. Seems like a good place to meet up with others. The pasta, chicken wings, wagyu beef burger were delicious! (except the portions were a bit smaller than I thought it would be. Personally fusion restaurants especially thai ones aren't my forte, so if you don't like fusion thai-american food, I suggest you don't go there. It was worth it, can't wait to go back and try the other dishes on the menu.

Thai with a twist

Came here for a late lunch with a friend on the debut opening of the Greyhound. First impression- fits into IFC very well. Posh and modern decor, black and white and quite bright. The first thing I noticed were the quirky uniforms. Apparently if the staff member speaks Thai, they have Thai written on the shirts, if they didn't, it was just an English phrase. Quite clever.
I ordered the Thai Iced Coffee. It was quite strong, yet with a hint of chocolate notes to it. Not too sweet, but still packs a good sugar rush to your head. Being so late, my friend and I decided to try the recommended Cesar Salad and the Pad Thai. The Cesar salad had a bit too much dressing for my liking, however it was quite tasty. Topped with bacon bits, shaved cheese and home made croutons. The Pad Thai was small in portion, but big in taste. Presented neatly and clean.
Other things I want to try next time I am there- the recommended "complicated" noodles, the mango and sticky rice and finally the interesting iced lemon tea "greyhound" style.
All in all, not too bad for the IFC. I will be back.- How much did you spend?
