Juicy but salty
minestrone | Sep 27 2010
A big fan of the original in Japan, I would say the pork here stays juicy and delectable. The set dinner portion is just right. Only complaint I would have is that with copious amounts of the tonkatsu sauce, it would say it verges a bit on the salty side. If they can balance out the sauce a bit, would prove more yummy.

juicy

delicious succulent tonkatsu - deep fried pork. The "rosu" is fattier and therefore juicier, but the "hire" is excellent as well.
they did not remodelling after sushi rei moved out of that space - quite funny.

Tonkatsu

While many still swear by Tonkichi, I've happily switched to Ginza Bairin. It is true that the pork chop is not as tender as the one at Tonkichi, and here they don't offer toasted sesame with the sauce, but my new favourite is the katsu don (deep fried pork chop on a bed of rice, with a sunny side up fried egg on top) It easily surpasses the tonkatsu at Tonkichi. It's the combination of the runny egg yolk and special sauce that makes this so delicious. Also fantastic kaki fry (deep fried oysters)
We also tried the sliced pork with ginger sauce, which was too salty. In fact, I had to return it to the kitchen.
Simple Japanese interior, i.e. wood everywhere. Service is a bit rushed, but then it's pork chop so it's acceptable.
