    Elegant Italian cuisine

    Heatblast | Aug 14 2010

This place is a bit hard to judge. The fact that it serves fairly good Italian dishes, particularly the meats, is commendable. But the fact that it is tucked away in a corner of The Excelsior, with really nondescript hotel decor and furniture that totally lack character, has done it some degree of injustice.

During my last meal here, I particularly enjoyed the beef carpaccio that was served with a sprinkling of rocket and radicchio.

However, caution has to be noted for peanut allergy sufferers. My son developed a mild allergic reaction after drinking its minestrone soup; we saw that there was a drizzle of pesto on the soup and suspected cross contamination - perhaps the kitchen had ground the pinenuts used for the pesto in the same mixer as that used for peanuts. But once we alerted the staff, they were all very apologetic and went out of their way to help us.
