Award-winning restaurant Yamm has been serving an impressive buffet since its opening in 2008. It is one of three popular restaurants at the ultra-hip new hotel, The Mira Hong Kong. It is famed for its jet fresh sashimi, its array of seafood from international destinations, and its freshly shucked oysters from premier locations. It has also secured a reputation for excellent à la minute Japanese cuisine, heavenly Serrano ham, and a delectable range of desserts.
Add to this a continual range of specials that are added to its all-you-can eat buffet, such as the current Wagyu beef, and you can understand why it is busy every night. There is also an à la carte menu, which is decadently different, with comfort staples such as the Wagyu Burger with Foie Gras, or the Iberico Ham Baguette. The attention to detail and richness extends to the interiors, which are stylish and modern. All this adds up to equal an impressive and memorable meal.
The Ocean's Bounty
For any lover of seafood the place to start is with the bounties of the ocean. The freshly shucked oysters include the refreshingly briny Coffin Bay from Australia. The oysters are so fresh that if you close your eyes when you eat them you will be transported to the seaside.
Follow this up with boston lobster, yabbies, sea whelks, Alaskan King crab leg, crab claw, scallop with roe served on the half shell, mussels and giant shrimp. All the seafood is imported to ensure the highest quality.
Keeping on the seafood theme, indulge in smoked salmon with its rich, house smoked, flavour, while the marinated tuna will leave you wanting more.

Culinary Journey
Which direction to take next is your choice. You may want to put together your own antipasto platter, or head to Japan for jet-fresh sashimi and sushi, or sample a selection from the Japanese à la minute choices. Or maybe all three.
The freshly carved Serrano ham has a wonderful flavour that is not to be missed and pairs perfectly with the imported figs. Add to this air-dried beef, salami, caper berries, olives, and a selection of greens such as rocket, endive, butter lettuce, and tomato and you have an appetising European-inspired platter for sharing.
Yellowtail, salmon, tuna, botan ebi, scallop, and uni are just some of the sashimi choices. The yellowtail is currently at its seasonal peak and almost melts in the mouth. The botan ebi is so sweet that it will be hard to resist having more. Perhaps the most indulgent is the uni, which is so creamy you almost need a spoon to eat it. You can either have as much of your favourite as you want or order a sashimi platter from the staff that will be then delivered to your table. Not needing to wait allows you to sample some of the other delicious fare.

Sushi can also be ordered for delivery to the table or you can create your own with the talented chefs making your choices to order, or sample some of the maki rolls and Japanese sides that have just been made.
There is also a selection of Wagyu options that you will not want to miss. This includes the melt-in-the mouth Kagoshima Beef Sashimi with Pomelo Sauce, the creatively presented Kagoshima Beef Tartare Sushi served in a sheet of rice paper, with its balance of flavours and textures it tastes as amazing as it looks. While noodle fans will want to try the Beef Cheek Ramen.
À La Minute
The choices for à la minute Japanese delicacies are unmatched by any other hotel buffet. This includes Crispy tempura, with a range of choices such as prawn, pumpkin, lotus root, okra and shiitake mushroom. A variety of meat, seafood and vegetables can be chosen to be cooked using the Yakitori or Teppanyaki methods; all served with traditional accompaniments and delivered right to the table.
There is also a selection of Japanese noodle choices that continually change depending on what is in season, allowing for spontaneous creativity by the chefs.

International Temptations
It might be time to get up from the table and go for a stroll to the buffet area to make room for some more tempting dishes. Two highly popular choices are the carved-to-order Peking Duck with pancakes and traditional additions, and the flavourful roast sirloin served with gravy.
If you are looking for a healthier option you can make yourself a Caesar salad or your own unique salad choosing your favourite ingredients from the large selection. There is also a variety of dressings.
If you still have room there is a selection of Western, South Asian, and Chinese dishes to sample. Popular dishes include the truly authentic Char Kway Teow, and the Hainanese Chicken Rice.
Don't Skip Dessert
There is an old foodies saying that rings true for Yamm, "There is always room for dessert". From healthy choices, such as apple crumble, freshly cut tropical fruits, to decadent chocolate options, and ice cream for the kids (or the child in us), there is a large selection. Many of the choices have already been served in individual portions, making it easy to try a little of everything.
The selection is continually changing. Some of the tempting treats you might sample include fresh cream profiteroles, macaroons, chocolate mud cake, and a sinfully rich New York cheese cake, among a host of delicious confections.
With its extensive selection of mouth-watering options it is no wonder that Yamm is a favourite for the city's gourmands.
