It is no news that the dining landscape is expanding eastward, from Causeway Bay towards Tai Hang and Tin Hau, and now, Quarry Bay is the new neighborhood with numerous new openings offering from regional Chinese cuisine to foreign fare. Among notable openings is The News Room, operated by the same group that delights dining crowds with The Press Room and Classified. Famous for hangouts over cheese and wine, The News Room aims at serving comfort food to diners from breakfast to lunch to dinner. The News Room is a hip restaurant that's meant more than just a happy-hour destination. In fact, it offers more variety of items offered on the menu.
Breakfast is undoubtedly an important meal to start a day. That is why it's important to sit down to have a breakfast while catching up on daily updates. On weekends, The News Room offers an extensive selection of Brunch Favorites to kick start a beautiful weekend. The Full English Breakfast is a stunning powerhouse to begin with. Consisting of a selection of meats, the breakfast features Irish Sausages - made the old fashioned way with pork as a filling, flavored with plenty of sage leaves. The sausages are sautéed with a crisp exterior, and bursting with juices within. Bacon featured in this Full English Breakfast does not come in strips, instead, the round slices of meats are meatier but has a more tender texture, almost like a thin slice of pork seared in the hot pan. On the side are Baked Beans, Tomatoes that have been sliced and roasted in a low oven until they dried slightly, and Hash browns made with duck fat and fresh thyme. Eggs play an important part of this breakfast as well, and two of them are cooked to order according to the diners' requests - sunny-sided up, boiled, or simply poached. Toasts and butter round up the full list of breakfast items here.
Those who fancy something sweet for to start a day will can enjoy the French Toast. Slices of white sandwich bread are dunked into a mixture of grated cinnamon, milk, and eggs until they have soaked up most of the custard mixture. The bread slices are then pan-fried in butter and finished off in the oven until they are toasty on the edges but bearing a soft custardy interior that melts in the mouth. The French Toasts are served with a fluffy Madagascar vanilla cream and slices of banana, not to mention a drizzle of maple syrup that cures a craving for sweet tooths.

Eggs Benedict are another signature at Tthe News Room , with three variations on the same dish: Eggs Benedict (with Serrano ham), Florentine (with spinach) and Royale (with smoked salmon). Eggs Benedict is a classic brunch item. Instead of bacon, The News Room replaces the filling with ribbons of Serrano Ham.
Aside from meaty Brunch favorites, the News Room offers a collection of pastries and breads as well, together with a good House-made Muesli, consisting an interesting mélange of mixed nuts and organic rolled oats, which are toasted and mixed with a mélange of fruits such as plump raisins, fresh blueberries and raspberries. The muesli is dressed with a flavorful Elderflower honey and topped with a quenelle of Greek Yogurt. The combination of textures from nuts and oats are further complemented with the Yogurt and the floral aroma of Elderflower honey, adding depth in flavours of the muesli itself.
Aside from adult-sized portions of Brunch items, The News Room does not forget the kids, offering a selection of Kids' Specials, each dish featuring one Main item in smaller portions, together with a soft drink and ice cream whose flavors are made for the restaurant including a buttery shortbread flavored ice cream and cinnamon ice cream for a touch of spice to round off a meal. Among the Kids' Specials is Pasta with Tomato Sauce and Parmesan. Strands of pasta tossed in a fresh tomato sauce and seasoned with a generous sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese. The Steak and Chips Kids' meal features a generous portion of grilled steak and golden crispy French fries, served with ketchup and a crisp watercress salad.
As a dining venue that exudes comfort and suggests that dining need not be a luxury to those who has the time to do so, The News Room opens early every day and closes late, offering variety of food to diners alike who may fancy everything from small bites to an elaborate multi-course meal.
