Hotel Nikko's Cooking with Talent

Hotel Nikko will introduce a cooking class series, that it calls “Cooking with Talent”. The classes are hands-on and each participant will have their own cooking station. Held every alternate week, the 2-hour class is followed by a lunch (lunch buffet at Café Serena for European cuisine or dessert class; Chinese lunch set at Toh Lee for Cantonese cuisine lesson; Japanese lunch set at Sagano for Japanese cuisine class). Participants will also receive a complimentary apron and a $200 cash coupon for semi-buffet dinner at Les Celebrites. If you bring along a friend, both of you can enjoy 10% off the normal price, which will cost you $315. All lessons will be conducted in Cantonese.

Celebrity Iron Chef

From 3-7 September, Yan Toh Heen, will welcome celebrity Japanese chef Yuji Wakiya, owner and chef of Turandot and  Wakiya. Known in Japan as the "Iron Chef" of Chinese cuisine, thanks to his appearances on the popular TV programme which originated in Japan, and internationally for his creative Chinese cuisine infused with Japanese influences, Chef Wakiya is collaborating with Yan Toh Heen executive chef Lau Yiu Fai to create an innovative special menu showcasing specially imported seasonal Japanese ingredients.             
                       


The 8-course set menu is $1,988 per person, inclusive of sake pairing and will continue to be available for the rest of the month.

Harbour Grand Happenings

The much sought Matsutake mushroom is being served at Nagomi, in September and October. Signatures include Steamed Hirame Rolled with Matsutake Mushrooms, and Matsutake Mushroom Tea Pot Soup.
At Harbour Grand Cafe in October, guest chef Kim Jae Sun, from Seoul, Korea, will bring traditional Korean food culture to diners. He has tailor-made 20 dishes including Sautéed Beef Tripes with Glass Noodles and Vegetables, Korean Traditional Rice Punch and Grilled Barbecued Beef Spare Ribs.

At Le 188˚ it is all about the black truffle with a highlight being Pan Fried Giant Scallop with black truffle potato foam, and for dessert Black Truffle Full Moon Cake - featuring truffle, honey and white chocolate.

Kwan Cheuk Heen regales guests with a selection of Hang Zhou dishes, from Deep-fired Mandarin Fish with Sweet and Sour Sauce, Baked Hang Zhou Beggar Chicken to Sautéed Shrimps with Long Jing Tea Leaf.

Beefy September

Chef Hiroyuki Ito will present Kumamoto Beef from Kyushu in September. Guests will be able to enjoy Kumamoto Beef prepared in different ways including teppanyaki, salted grilled, sukiyaki, shabu shabu as well as Kumamoto Beef rice with onion and char-grilled Kumamoto Beef with Miso Soup.

The Kumamoto Beef menu will be available for lunch and dinner from Mondays to Thursdays and lunch on Fridays.

The Place will add 30 additional seafood offerings, exclusively for the first two weeks of September.
 
Savour New Zealand mussels, freshly shucked American and Australian oysters, black pepper king crab, steamed baby abalone, scallops in the shell, lobster e-fu noodles and more. There’ll also be fresh sushi sliced to order, snow crabs, chilli crabs, Norwegian salmon, razor clams, sea whelk and dozens more options plus the regular fusion of offerings from our European, Thai, Chinese, Malaysian and Vietnamese chefs.
 
The buffet is priced at $498 for adults, those under 12 or over 65 get to dine at half price.

Freshwater Fish

Toh Lee, is serving a range of dishes to satisfy freshwater fish aficionados. Steamed, braised, sautéed, deep-fried…choices include sautéed eel, bamboo shoots and pepper served with Chinese pancake; braised canton carp with gravy, black pepper sauce and vegetables; and steamed freshwater eel with yellow wine and Chinese herbs. Plus braised basa fish with black mushroom, roasted pork and beancurd stick and steamed bullet fish with shredded pork and black mushrooms.

Other specialties include pan-fried fish head with soya sauce; deep-fried bullet fish; deep-fried river fish; deep-fried mandarin fish with pine nuts and sweet sauce; sea perch broth with bamboo shoot, barbecued pork, chicken liver and mandarin peel and simmered frog legs and thick noodles with chilli sauce.

Cucina has introduced TST Nights, with special promotions at the bar available on Thursday, Saturday and Tuesday nights.

On Thursdays – Antipasti Festival. A selection of antipasti imported directly from Italy will be featured at the bar every Thursday. The spread of antipasti served in tapas style includes cured meats, regional cheeses, olives, roasted vegetables and compotes. All-you-can-drink selected Italian red and white wines are paired with the antipasti buffet at $328 per person, available from 6:30pm to 9:30pm.


Saturdays – Cheese and Wine. On Saturdays, a selection of five cheeses including Montasio Cheese, Sottocenere al Tartufo, Percorino Toscano Stagionato, Ubriaco del Piave-Amarone and Toma Cheese will be with free flow of red and white wines at $328 per person. Chefs will be around to recommend the best pairing to guests. Also available from 6.30-9.30pm.

Tuesdays – Seafood Platter Night. Chilled lobster, crab, oysters, mussels, clams and shrimps served with red wine shallot vinegar and cocktail sauce will be freshly prepared at $498 per platter. Guests can also enjoy a 50% discount on selected champagne, white and red wines. Available from 6:30pm to 10:30pm.

Morton’s of Chicago is serving a new Steak & Seafood menu priced at $550. The two-course special starts with the brand's signature Morton’s Salad with blue cheese dressing, chopped egg and anchovies or classic Caesar Salad. Main course is Single Cut Filet Mignon, accompanied by seafood options of Broiled Sea Scallops, Colossal Shrimp Alexander or Jumbo Lump Crab Cake, plus signature potato or fresh vegetables. The promotional menu is being served until 30 September.

Due to popular demand, Morton’s is also extending its Classic Menu twinning prime beef and seafood until 30 September. Priced at $965, it features salad of Centre Cut Iceberg Wedge, served with a steak choice of Single Cut Filet Mignon or Single Cut Prime New York Strip Steak, and a seafood option of either Cold Water Lobster Tail or Alaskan King Crab legs. The classic combination is complimented by Grilled Jumbo Asparagus glazed with balsamic.

Monster Burger

Main St. Deli has launched the Main St. Monster Burger. Served in a 12 inch bap the burger is packed with 32ozs of prime ground US beef, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, pickles, cheese and mayonnaise – it is not for the faint hearted. The burger is priced at $488 per burger.

For those not willing to tackle such a feast Main St. Deli will still have its regular à la carte menu serving American-style salads and sandwiches and is offering guests dining for dinner 25% off their total bill until 31 August. This offer does not apply to the Main St. Monster Burger.

Peninsula Cooking Classes

For keen cooks, The Peninsula Academy culinary classes are the perfect way to learn the secrets of the hotel’s award-winning restaurants. Taught by individual Peninsula restaurant chefs and held throughout the year over four mornings, classes also include an optional behind-the-scenes kitchen tour, product knowledge and tips, together with a lunch to sample some of the dishes demonstrated during the class. Taught in English, each class costs $1,100 per person, with space limited to 15 participants per session.
